Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF, is an alternative to fossil jet fuel which helps to reduce the CO2 emissions generated by air transport. It is already available on the market and can be used in current logistics infrastructure, without any adaptations to existing aircraft and engines.
TotalEnergies is one of the main players in the global market for commercial, general and private aviation. The development of bio-jet fuels is one part of TotalEnergies strategy to meet the challenge of getting to net zero carbon emissions.
All sustainable aviation fuels produced by the TotalEnergies Group will be made using waste and residues from the circular economy (animals fats, used cooking oil, etc.).
TotalEnergies has already been involved in a number of SAF refueling operations, going back several years. They include Lab’Line for the future operations, in partnership with Air France, in 2014, and several Air France flights between Paris and Nice during the Cannes Festival in May 2016. TotalEnergies has also been refueling aircraft produced at Airbus’s Toulouse site since 2016.
