Turbotech Signs Agreement with TotalEnergies for the Supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at the Paris-Saclay-Versailles Site
Le Bourget, June 17, 2025
On the occasion of the 55th International Paris Air Show (SIAE), Turbotech has signed a partnership with TotalEnergies that will allow Turbotech to carry out turbine testing using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplied by TotalEnergies at the Paris-Saclay-Versailles site (Île-de-France).
TotalEnergies will supply Turbotech with SAF blended at 35% with traditional Jet-A1 fuel, as well as 100% SAF for engine bench testing at Paris-Saclay-Versailles. Aircraft equipped with Turbotech’s turbines (XL8, VL3) will also continue testing at the Gap site, where TotalEnergies is studying the provision of 35% SAF blend for flight trials.
The SAF is produced by TotalEnergies in its European facilities from waste and residues derived from the circular economy, such as used cooking oils.
Used pure, SAF can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% over its life cycle compared to its fossil-based equivalent.
Turbotech is the first company in the world to offer the light aviation sector a regenerative turbine capable of operating on various fuels.
The promises of the Turbotech engine are many: lower fuel consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, reduced maintenance costs, and a lower noise footprint. Its ability to operate on any conventional or renewable fuel is also a major asset in contributing to the decarbonization of general aviation.
After demonstrating its engine’s capability to run on hydrogen (with the “beautHyFuel” consortium involving Air Liquide, Daher Socata, Safran and Elixir), and expanding microlight (ULM) regulations to ULM-S (in partnership with DGAC and FFPLUM), Turbotech will now demonstrate the ability of its 141-hp TP-R90 engine to run on SAF.
We are delighted with this partnership for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel, which will allow Turbotech to test its turbine performance using our product. This collaboration demonstrates our ability to offer solutions to our clients to support the decarbonization of the sector.
Vice President, Aviation & Marine Fuel at TotalEnergies
Turbotech is very enthusiastic about this partnership with TotalEnergies, which will help meet the decarbonization goals of light aviation while also supporting the development of biofuel distribution channels at general aviation platforms.
